How To Repair Tint On Sunglass Lens

If you know how to repair tint on sunglass lens yourself, you can eliminate the need to purchase a new pair of sunglasses each time they get a scratch. Sunglasses can be expensive. They lens can easily get scratched from daily activities. Put your glasses down the wrong way or accidentally drop them and your lens are scratched. Please note that if your glasses are glass, there is no method to remove the scratches from the tint.

In order to repair the tint on your sunglasses, you will need:

  • Armor Etch
  • Micro-fiber cloth
  1. Armour Etch is a cream that is designed to add a frosted appearance to glass. You can find this product at your local craft store. Since Armour Etch is toxic, you need to be sure to use only in a well-ventilated area. Be sure to wear gloves.
  2. Apply a thin coat of Armour Etch to the glasses while wearing your latex or rubber gloves. It will be remove the anti-reflective coating and help repair the tint, which is the film containing the scratches. Coat the front and back sides of the lenses. Run the glasses under warm water to remove the Armour Etch.
  3. Dry the sunglasses with a micro-fiber cloth. Never use paper towels to clean your glasses. Paper towels are abrasive and can cause more scratches on your glasses, ruining the tint.
  4. You can also use a polishing kit purchased from your local optometrist to polish and buff out scratches. It is basically the same thing as Armour Etch. The kits typically consist of a special polish and soft cloth. The polish must be applied to both sides of the sunglasses and it has to sit for several minutes. After the time has elapsed, use the cloth to buff out the scratches.
